Border fence

A ship has arrived early in the morning in Bergen harbour at Skoltegrunnskaien. Passengers are preparing to come ashore. From the ship there is a short distance to walk into the city centre along "Bryggen", the famous historic Hanseatic part of the city. First the passengers have to get through the fence between the cruise quay and the street. The iron fences is a shame, but a result of international law.
Because of this fence there is not enough space for a bike lane in the street anlong the cruise quay. May be one day there will be.
Cruise visitors should also have more space on their stroll along the street from the harbour to the city centre.

Cycle to job campain 2009

Today the Cycle to the job-action 2009 was opened in the morning rush . This is the largest campaign for physical activity in the workplace. Over 1,000 teams are competing in this year's action. I want to be in one of them, so I had to establish a new team at my workplace.

When I cycle to job it's neccessary to wake up early in the morning. But in this season it's a pleasure. Just look at the picture from this morning about 7:00 from Gaupåsvatnet, it looks like a famous romantic painting from the 18th century.

Yellow Spring

Before sunrise I'm on the way from Garnes to my job in Bergen. Early a grey morning the ground have colors from winter. Somewhere small piles of crushed and squeezed light brown wood chips from branches are left along the road. The authority has taken steps to remove branches that interfere with visibility for road users. During the a couple of years the piles will shrink and be transformed to soil material.

The grass sprouts in some cultivated fields, but trees are mostly without leaves . Well, one kind of tree is dominating by its yellow color.

All the way from Arna to Sandviken there are plenty of "goose babies". Today they have rather few competitors, except av few of these bushes, where flowers also come on bare branches. But these grows in the garden.

Today I count more cyslists than the same time last year. Cycling is more popular and more necessary than ever! And yellow flowers helps to give you more energy in an early spring morning. Better than using energy on the motorway, here in Åsane this morning at 7:30 .

Snow?bicycle

Looking for a snowbicycle, a bike in the snow? Can it be this one?

Today I had the opportunity to visit the best Norwegian city for cycling, Lillestrøm, a winner in a survey last year. But it appears that this ranking does not cover the winter season. How can it be that this city was the best Norwegian city for cycling throughout the year when the situation in winter is so different?
Just outside the station I look for a parking space for bicycles. There are very many bikes, so perhaps they also are in use.

However, areas for cars and pedestrians along the streets are cleared for snow, the marked bicycle lane is not. Dirty and wet snow is stored in the bicycle lane so cyclists have to find their space in between other vehicles.

Lady Mayor of the city is very proud of her position, and has announced that she works for a still top ranking for her city later. She promises her willingness to negotiate with the state road authorities to obtain assurances that the snow should be removed from the bike lane in the future.
